Kidney Stones Treatment - Know about available Methods
The kidney stones treatment may vary depending on the size of the stones and condition of the patient. The treatment generally aims at relieving the patient of pain, passing kidney stones through urine or removing them surgically. The surgery may be invasive or non-invasive, depending on the position and size of the kidney stones.
As an alternative to surgery, shock treatment (extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy — ESWL) to literally shatter the stone into small pieces can be used. However, although this is carried out under local anesthetic, the feeling of having been run over by a truck persists for some days after.
Another form of treatment involves inserting a probe up the urethra and up into the urinary tract. This does give direct contact with the stone, which then requires a less powerful shockwave to shatter it, so meaning less residual pain. Alternatively a laser may be used on the end of the probe to fragment the stone.
Kidney beans, also known as dried French beans or Rajmah, are regarded as one of the effective kidney stones remedies, including kidney stones. The method prescribed to prepare the medicine is to remove the beans from inside the pods, then slice the pods and put about sixty grams in four litre of hot water, boiling them slowly for six hours. This liquid should be strained through fine muslin and then allowed to cool for about eight hours.
This procedure is sometimes used to remove or break up stones which have already passed two thirds of the way from the kidney to the bladder and then got stuck, causing great pain.
A fiber optic instrument, called an ureteroscope, is inserted through the urethra, then through the bladder and finally up the ureter until it reaches the stone. Once the stone is located, the urologist either shatters the stone with a laser or pneumatic device. This procedure is performed under general or local anesthetic, but recovery is quite swift.
If none of the other methods of removing your kidney stone are suitable, it may need to be removed using traditional surgery. This will involve making an incision in your back in order to gain access to both your ureter and kidney so that your kidney stone can be removed.
To aid in the prevention of kidney stones consider the following information. Consuming too much protein can damage the kidneys. The recommended amount of daily protein is two grams for every four pounds of body weight. Also, a diet low in sodium and sugar and abundant in potassium, magnesium, and vegetables, is recommended
